Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary.
And his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and
increases the power of the weak.
Isaiah 40:28-29
Have you tried to comprehend the ways of God in your own life or in world events?
Sometimes we catch a glimpse, but the longer we are on earth, the more events defy understanding. As we reflect on this passage of Isaiah, though, there are things of which we can be certain. God is the Creator of all things. The Lord is the everlasting God, with an eternal perspective. God never becomes tired or weary, although we often do through the circumstances of life.
Recently a situation occurred in my family that truly defied understanding and resulted in great weariness. I could do very little but wait and pray. During this time I prayed for strength and peace. Every time, it came in abundance, and just as verse 29 tells us, I did feel increased power and confidence that carried me through. Too often we try to power through on our own, but during this season of Advent, let us daily practice leaning on the One who promises us the gift of strength and power.
