Matthew 8:5-11

“Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only speak the word and my servant will be healed”.

Isn’t this an unusual story of a miracle?  The centurion certainly had rank and status in the Roman community.  We don’t know if he was a follower of Jesus but he certainly had heard of him and admired him even though Jesus was not of the standing of the centurion.  One of the interesting aspects of this miracle is the love this centurion had for his servant.  This love caused him to disregard the barriers of rank and race to plead for his health.

Jesus’ response was immediate and he cured the slave without touching him nor did the slave hear him speak, it was enough that the words were spoken.  This leads me to wonder if when we speak God’s words for someone we love, they might somewhere find healing.
