Psalm 51:7, “Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
About this time of year thoughts turn to spring cleaning; out with the old, in with the new! Declutter, declutter, declutter. Organizing ideas flourish on websites and in magazines. We find ourselves knee-deep in boxes and bins while contemplating ‘keep,’ ‘give away’ and ‘somewhere else’ piles. We bring out cleansers and cleaners to scrub, rub, brush, and mop. We polish and wash, buff and shine, dip and douse until house and windows sparkle.
As we enter the season of Lent, why not consider a spiritual Spring Clean? Out with destructive thoughts, habits and relationships. In with renewed love for God and others, and joy for life. Declutter the mind through daily prayer, worship and Bible reading. Declutter life from discouragers and dark movies, books, TV, and websites. Declutter time through commitment to godly priorities.
Keep Jesus. Keep faith. Keep positive encouragers. ‘Give away’ what draws away. Put ‘somewhere else’ what harms. Clean out sinfulness, scrub away bad choices, rub out negativity, brush away detractors, mop up messes. Then polish peace and patience; wash in God’s Word; buff and shine mercy and ministry; dip in kindness, forgiveness and self-control; and daily douse with the Holy Spirit.
Emerge a beautiful, fresh and clean, testimony of God. Will you start today?
